Thanks for all your hard work, everyone!!
It’s been getting hotter lately, and the weather has become quite uncomfortable.
Especially in Nagoya, summers are really tough to handle.
If it’s this hot already, I can’t even imagine what summer will be like! 💦
Please make sure to take precautions against heatstroke, okay??
There are many people suffering from heatstroke all over the world.
It seems that heatstroke cases are increasing year by year,
and according to a report,
between 1990 and 1999, the number of deaths worldwide due to heatstroke was 335,000 per year.
In Japan, 4,300 people died annually between 2012 and 2021,
an increase of nearly 2.4 times compared to the 1990s. In Italy, 7
400, and Spain 5,800—both figures have roughly doubled.
A twofold increase is crazy, isn’t it?!
What will we do if global warming continues like this? 💦
Before you know it, you might end up with heatstroke.
Even so, it’s essential to take precautions against heatstroke, so
I’d like to share some essential tips for preventing heatstroke here m(__)m
Please feel free to read it if you’d like!!
1. Replenishing fluids and salt: When to drink
Before you feel thirsty, drink a glass (100–200 ml) of water every 15–20 minutes. Recommended drinks: If you’ve sweated a lot, sports drinks or oral rehydration solutions containing salt are best.
*Important Notes
Avoid beverages high in alcohol or caffeine (such as coffee), as they have a diuretic effect and can actually cause your body to lose water.
2. Creating an Environment to Avoid the Heat Indoor Measures
Use air conditioners and fans effectively to keep the room temperature below 28°C. It is also effective to block direct sunlight with blackout curtains or bamboo blinds.
・Outdoor Precautions
Use a parasol or hat to avoid direct sunlight. We also recommend wearing breathable clothing and using items such as ice packs or cooling sheets.
・Tips for Going Out
Avoid going out for long periods or exercising during the hottest part of the day (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM).
3. Daily Health Management: Acclimatization to Heat
It is important to acclimate your body to the heat by sweating through moderate exercise and bathing before the heat becomes intense. Lifestyle Habits: Lack of sleep and an unbalanced diet increase the risk of heatstroke. Make sure to get enough sleep and eat a balanced diet.
4. First Aid (If Heat Stroke Symptoms Are Present)
*If you experience symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or nausea, take the following actions immediately.
・Move to a cool place
Move to an air-conditioned room or a well-ventilated, shaded area.
・Cool the body
Loosen their clothing and apply ice packs or cold water bottles to the back of the neck, underarms, and groin (between the thighs) to cool the blood.
・Replenish fluids and electrolytes
If they can drink on their own, give them cold fluids and salt.
